Juliet Sluce
Juliet gained a BA Hons in Surface Decoration from De Montford University and worked as a designer/buyer in home furnishings retail for twelve years, working internationally. She worked directly with Sir Terence Conran for nine years and with fashion chain Monsoon before starting her own design consultancy specialising in home furnishings and product design in London. A move to Devon encouraged Juliet to expand her horizons and develop her design work into Interiors for commercial and residential clients. Today, she works from her design studio in Newton Ferrers with a team of creative individuals who specialise in architectural design, colour schemes, artists perspectives, 3D visualisation and project management.
“As a designer with 25 years working experience behind me in the retail and construction sectors, I have been fortunate to enjoy a wide variety of contacts and projects. Interior design is so key to our enjoyment of our homes or the built environment – we feel depressed when it looks messy, we feel inspired when it looks good!”
“Through working with other designers, suppliers and contractors, I have been able to deliver a broad range of services to my clients, taking their brief to fruition whether it is a work space or a personal space. I find it exciting and inspiring to work with others and achieve something new and better than before.”
“Things that inspire me as a designer are undoubtedly the natural world around us and who could not be inspired by living in a beautiful place like Devon? I am also obsessive about colours, whether they are vivid or just neutral. Interior design is like painting in three dimensions and it has me hooked!”

Justin Sluce
Justin gained his BSc (Hons) degree in architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College. Having developed a strong interest in design theory this was followed by a Masters degree in Design History at the Royal College of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum. The next step of his career saw him complete a management training course at The Conran Shop in South Kensington where he became a departmental manager at the flagship store. By now the desire to be designing rather than selling design had grown to the point where it was time to work in a practice. In 1993 Justin joined BPTW Architects in London and stayed there for 10 years becoming an Associate for the last few years. After making the decision to move to Devon in 2003 he joined the Architects Design Group where he was an Associate director until 2009 when he set up jsd.
Having had such a broad range of design experience Justin has been able to take on diverse and complex projects of all sorts of sizes ranging from individual furniture pieces to estates of housing and master planning.
“Things that inspire me as a designer are sustainable design and the sense that although we are creating something new it is not at the expense of the earth’s resources. This informs my design decisions on a daily basis and my clients want to feel good about their projects without feeling the guilt of wasting materials either through recycling or as a part of carefully considered design. I am also uplifted to feel that building quality homes for people is a really important occupation and I take pleasure in being able to engage in the process with my clients.”
“My work ethos is that business should also be a pleasure if it is well managed and well executed. I am constantly striving to ensure that the process of design and construction is a positive one for my clients and I will go the extra mile to eliminate as many of the stresses and strains as I can through the project.”
Previous clients include: Unite Housing, Peryer Property, Circle Housing, Ocean Housing, Midas Homes, The Mead Dental Practice, Thomas Pocklington Trust.
